Community Initiatives

Working with schools, families, individuals, charities & communities

Community psychology prioritises the importance of the community and how the variables of community (e.g. culture, families, community diversity, health, physical environment and economy) influence individual development. It works to understand individuals within the context of their communities, to then work to support the individual’s development and empowerment.  This means that the psychologists will work often at a more systemic level, as well as, and more than at the traditional individual level.

Examples of how we have worked at this level:

Thriving Through Venture:

Recognising the importance of projects that are beyond school academics, and that help develop an understanding of the  ‘social wealth and richness’ of community, based on the need for belonging, connecting and purpose and how this can empower individuals.

During Covid:

Empowering and mentoring older students  (6th formers) who gave zoom sessions to younger children to help them with their school work, and to support parents at home.

Future projects:

To establish relationships with local schools exploring how local independent professionals working with children and young people from different disciplines, can support schools, especially in mind of the current crisis of funding and support from the Local Authority and NHS Services.
